New Delhi, Aug 12 (IANS) Alert personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, detected a skull concealed inside a passenger’s hand baggage during a pre-embarkation security check on Wednesday.

The passenger was scheduled to travel from Delhi to Hyderabad. During the security screening process, CISF personnel noticed a suspicious object hidden inside the passenger’s hand baggage. Upon questioning, the passenger claimed that the recovered item was a monkey skull.

Given the nature of the object and its suspected link to wildlife, the passenger was handed over to the local police for further legal action under the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

The incident underscores the alertness and vigilance of CISF personnel in ensuring aviation security and their proactive role in supporting the enforcement of laws aimed at protecting wildlife and preventing the illegal transport of wildlife-related items.

Earlier, on January 24, panic briefly erupted at Terminal 3 of Delhi’s IGI Airport after a box containing what appeared to be a human skeleton was discovered within the airport premises. The finding triggered a security alert, prompting Delhi Police and other security agencies to rush to the spot and conduct thorough checks. However, subsequent investigations revealed that the skeleton was not real but a model commonly used in medical colleges for educational purposes.

According to Delhi Police, the box was found in the departure area near an airline office between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Airport) Vichitra Veer had said, “During inquiry, it emerged that a passenger had left the box with airline staff after being denied permission to carry it on the flight. The item was later noticed by housekeeping staff, who alerted DIAL security, which in turn informed the local police.”

Police officials had stated that no suspicious material was found and that the situation was handled in accordance with established security protocols. However, to ensure complete compliance with all procedures, the skeleton was sent for forensic examination.
