Yet another civilian in Balochistan has reportedly been extrajudicially killed by Pakistani forces, as stated by a human rights organization. This incident adds to a series of extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances in the region. The victim, identified as 27-year-old shopkeeper Mehran Baloch, was allegedly shot dead by Pakistan-backed death squads in broad daylight on May 21 in the Kech district.
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC), a human rights body, condemned the killing, highlighting the continuous targeting of Baloch civilians despite heavy military presence. The BYC expressed concern over the rising number of deaths and disappearances during what should be a festive period. Families in Balochistan are reportedly mourning the loss of their loved ones amid fear and silence in the region.
Calling for urgent international attention, the BYC urged human rights organizations, the United Nations, and the global community to address the deteriorating human rights situation in Balochistan. The organization emphasized that Baloch voices speaking against oppression are met with arrests and further repression instead of justice.
Sabiha Baloch, a central leader of the BYC, criticized a recent violent raid on the residence of Zareef Baloch, who was extrajudicially killed by Pakistani forces last year. The raid, characterized by property damage and intimidation, was seen as part of ongoing state repression against Baloch families. Security forces reportedly entered the house at night, causing distress to the grieving family members.
Zareef Baloch, who was forcibly disappeared in December, was found dead with signs of severe torture the following day. Sabiha Baloch highlighted the lack of accountability and protection of human rights, citing continued harassment of families after such incidents. The BYC leader condemned the raids on civilian homes, stating that such actions violate fundamental human dignity and justice.
