Hollywood actress Claire Danes shared a valuable piece of advice she received from Oscar-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio during the filming of ‘Romeo + Juliet’. Danes, reflecting on the emotionally intense shoot at 17, mentioned a moment where she played with a prop gun before a crucial scene. DiCaprio, in a serious tone, cautioned her against such behavior, emphasizing the importance of safety on set.
In a conversation with Richard Gadd for Actors on Actors, Danes recounted the incident, recalling DiCaprio’s words, “Claire, we don’t do that. Don’t eff around.” The actress admitted to being playful with the prop gun, acknowledging her mistake. The issue of safety with prop firearms has gained prominence following a tragic incident on the set of ‘Rust’ in 2021.
DiCaprio, who was 21 during the ‘Romeo + Juliet’ shoot, demonstrated a professional approach to his work, drawing from his experience in previous films involving firearms. Despite Danes’ own impressive background in acting, the emotional depth of the shoot brought out new aspects of her performance. Gadd even mentioned writing a school essay on the powerful moment when Danes, portraying Juliet, discovers Romeo’s lifeless body.
