A significant cleanliness campaign is scheduled to take place along the Sabarmati riverbed and riverfront areas in Ahmedabad from June 2 to 5. The initiative, led by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL), will coincide with World Environment Day on June 5. The focus will be on removing waste, plastic, wild vegetation, and other obstructions to enhance cleanliness along the Sabarmati.
The annual release of water into the river by the state government’s irrigation department before the monsoon triggers this special campaign. The authorities aim to clear the riverbed and adjacent riverfront regions in preparation for this water release process. Cleaning activities will commence on June 2, covering specific areas on both the western and eastern banks of the Sabarmati.
On June 3, cleaning teams will target additional areas near specific ghats and stairways on both sides of the river. The campaign will progress over the following days, with designated cleaning operations planned for different sections of the riverfront. The final day, June 5, will see workers focusing on areas around specific ghats and promenades on both the western and eastern banks.
Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot has urged the city’s organizations, NGOs, and citizens to actively participate in this cleanliness campaign. The initiative aims to maintain the cleanliness, safety, and environmental sustainability of the Sabarmati River and its surrounding areas. The AMC has coordinated efforts across departments to ensure the success of the campaign, emphasizing urban cleanliness, river conservation, and environmental protection.
