A day after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk was moved to Safdarjung hospital due to health issues from a 20-day hunger strike, his wife Gitanjali J. Angmo criticized the BJP-led Central government. She expressed that the government fears a large turnout for a peaceful march to Parliament during the upcoming Monsoon session on July 20. The Delhi High Court declined to intervene in Angmo’s plea against Wangchuk’s hospitalization, noting the government’s decision was not arbitrary.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) is spearheading the protest demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET-UG paper leak. Angmo disputed claims of Wangchuk’s deteriorating health, citing normal medical parameters the evening before. She questioned the government’s actions of forcibly moving him to the hospital and criticized the lack of transparency in the process.

Angmo accused the government of orchestrating a health drama to prevent Wangchuk from leading the march, alleging a fear of widespread public support. She highlighted the government’s efforts to impede the peaceful protest and criticized the handling of Wangchuk’s medical care. Angmo emphasized the need for Wangchuk to receive treatment from doctors and in an environment where he feels comfortable.

Questioning the heavy police presence and restrictions on communication at the hospital, Angmo drew parallels to Wangchuk’s previous experiences. She lamented the lack of choice in healthcare facilities and described the situation as a form of unofficial detention. Angmo expressed concerns over the government’s interference with Wangchuk’s treatment and emphasized the challenges faced by individuals seeking medical care.
