A cloth businessman in Karnataka’s Mandya district allegedly killed his wife and son before dying by suicide, citing financial difficulties, including debts and business losses. The incident, which involved 65-year-old Prabhakar, his 55-year-old wife Jyothi, and their 30-year-old son Santhosh, unfolded tragically. Prabhakar suffocated his wife with his dhoti before attacking his son, who had recently married.
The son, Santhosh, attempted to intervene but tragically met the same fate as his mother. Following the gruesome act, Prabhakar is believed to have taken his own life at his shop. The police were alerted to the situation early on Tuesday morning and discovered a note at the scene. The note highlighted the family’s financial struggles, including loans, declining business, and the impact of the state government’s Shakti free travel scheme on his textile business.
Authorities revealed that Prabhakar had borrowed a significant amount from finance companies, in addition to informal loans, which had put immense pressure on the family. The family had downsized their textile business from a large store to a smaller outlet specializing in women’s clothing. Investigations into the tragic incident are ongoing under the Mandya East Police.
