Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Mineral Exploration and Consultancy Limited (MECL) to enhance cooperation between the two leading exploration agencies. The collaboration aims to improve coal and mineral exploration for both energy and non-energy minerals. The Ministry of Coal announced this partnership to bolster the national inventory of coal and minerals and to facilitate the establishment of new mines in India.
This strategic alliance, formalized during a review meeting in Ranchi led by Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, signifies a crucial step towards promoting India’s mineral resources and strengthening self-reliance in the mineral sector. The agreement underscores the commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat by leveraging the country’s mineral wealth for sustainable growth and development.
The review meeting highlighted CMPDI’s performance across various operational domains, including exploration, report preparation, capital expenditure, research and development projects, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and solar projects for the period 2025-26. The presentation also outlined the targets set for the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27. Minister Dubey commended CMPDI’s achievements and stressed the significance of adopting clean coal technologies and strategically exploring critical minerals to ensure the nation’s energy and economic security.
Emphasizing the need for efficient processes, transparency, and increased market engagement, Minister Dubey directed CMPDI management to streamline procurement procedures and expand outreach efforts to prevent project delays and enhance bidder participation. Furthermore, the meeting underscored the transformation of mine closure activities into sustainable socio-economic opportunities for local communities. The initiative aims to promote the cultivation of fox nuts (makhana) and fisheries in reclaimed mining areas, aligning with the Government’s “One District, One Product” campaign.
