Tensions rose for Coco Gauff in a challenging semifinal match at the Dubai Tennis Championships where she lost to Elina Svitolina after a three-hour battle. Gauff, ranked World No. 4, displayed visible frustration towards her coaching team during the match, which ended 4-6, 7-6, 4-6.
After committing a double fault, Gauff, aged 20, was seen expressing her exasperation towards her coaching team, particularly her serving coach, Gavin MacMillan. MacMillan, known for his expertise in biomechanics, was brought in by Gauff to address her serving issues, which have been a persistent challenge for her.
Despite technical adjustments to her serve, Gauff struggled with double faults during crucial moments against Svitolina. Although she fought hard, saving four match points in the second set, she ultimately couldn’t halt Svitolina’s momentum, leading to her defeat.
Elina Svitolina, aged 31, advanced to the Dubai final after nearly a decade, where she will face American Jessica Pegula. Pegula secured her spot in the final by defeating Amanda Anisimova in a comeback victory.
For Gauff, the loss marked a disappointing conclusion to an otherwise strong week, highlighting her ongoing quest for improved consistency in her serves.
