Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal responded to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Italy. Goyal questioned Gandhi’s stance, asking why he seems to dislike everything related to India. He highlighted India’s global recognition under Modi’s leadership through initiatives like ‘Made in India’ and ‘Local Goes Global’, contrasting it with Congress’s perspective.
Goyal emphasized that India, under Modi, is finally gaining the respect and trust it deserves on the global stage after years of waiting. He suggested that Rahul Gandhi’s inability to accept this progress stems from his aversion to India’s success. Gandhi had earlier remarked on social media about PM Modi being in Italy during challenging economic times.
During PM Modi’s visit to Italy, he presented Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni with a packet of Parle’s ‘Melody’ toffees, symbolizing the friendly rapport between the two leaders. The term ‘Melodi’ emerged as a popular meme online, combining the names of Modi and Meloni, reflecting their amicable public interactions at international events.
PM Modi’s Italy visit signifies the strengthening ties between India and Italy across various sectors like trade, defense, and strategic cooperation. The leaders engaged in discussions covering a wide array of topics, with a bilateral meeting scheduled for the following day. Meloni welcomed PM Modi with an old picture of them at the Colosseum, signifying the warmth in their relationship.
