The commencement of commercial semiconductor chip production at CG Semi’s Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Gujarat’s Sanand highlights the involvement of young women from tribal areas in Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised these women for their contribution, showcasing India’s growing skilled manufacturing workforce. The women, who hail from tribal regions in states like Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, joined the semiconductor industry after completing their education at Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
PM Modi, during the inauguration event, commended the women employees for their confidence and expertise in guiding him through the factory and explaining the manufacturing processes. He emphasized the extraordinary work done by these women, who, despite humble beginnings and education from ITIs, are now playing a crucial role in the production of ‘Made in India’ semiconductor chips. The Prime Minister highlighted the significant shift in perceptions towards vocational education and praised the women for achieving milestones previously deemed unattainable.
The Prime Minister mentioned specific individuals like Poonam Kumari from Giridih district, Priyanka Dhanwar from West Singhbhum district in Jharkhand, and Shivani Uikey from Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh, who are employed as machine operators at the CG Semi plant. These women, after training in Malaysia, are now actively involved in semiconductor chip manufacturing at the Sanand facility, contributing to India’s domestic semiconductor program. They shared their experiences of personal growth and pride in being part of this groundbreaking initiative.
