New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday received a warm welcome from women at the Delhi Assembly following the implementation of the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, with beneficiaries expressing support for the initiative aimed at welfare and empowerment.
Addressing the gathering, Gupta said she was happy to see the joy among women in Delhi after the fulfilment of a promise made by the government.
“Today, I am happy for the women of Delhi, whose happiness knows no bounds. I am glad that we have been able to fulfil the promise that the Delhi government made to the women of Delhi. I promise every woman that for their empowerment and security, this Chief Minister and our government will always stand with them,” she said.
Delhi Minister Ashish Sood also highlighted the implementation of the scheme, comparing the governance models of different political parties.
“Dekh rahe ho Binod? (a well-known web series dialogue) Today, within one year, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the leadership of Rekha ji, the way has been opened for Delhi’s sisters to receive Rs 2,500. Those who display their IIT degrees and run Punjab through remote control have, until just three or four months before elections, spoken about women’s empowerment only for vote-bank politics. There is a sharp difference between these two models of governance,” Sood said.
Earlier on Thursday, Chief Minister Gupta visited the Delhi Lakshmi Yojana camp in Shalimar Bagh, where she interacted with women beneficiaries and took feedback about the scheme. She also assisted women with the registration process and signed application forms of several beneficiaries during her visit.
The camp witnessed an enthusiastic response, with women expressing confidence in the government’s initiative. Many beneficiaries said they believed the promises made during the elections were now being implemented on the ground.
The Delhi government reiterated its commitment to ensuring that every eligible woman receives the benefits of the scheme and that the registration process remains accessible to all eligible beneficiaries.
The Delhi Lakshmi Yojana, which began on August 1, has witnessed a significant response, with nearly four lakh registrations completed so far.
Under the scheme, eligible women in Delhi will receive financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month as part of the government’s efforts to promote women’s empowerment and provide greater economic support.
The initiative is being positioned by the Delhi government as a key step towards strengthening financial independence and security among women across the national capital.
