The Congress in Madhya Pradesh has accused the state’s BJP government of showing favoritism to the mining mafia. Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar criticized the government for renewing mining leases despite pending penalties of nearly Rs 305.97 crore against leaseholders. Singhar highlighted the issue at a press conference, emphasizing the need for transparency in handling mineral resources.
Singhar alleged that the government’s leniency towards the mining mafia was evident in its actions. He demanded that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who oversees the Mineral Resources portfolio, explain the rationale behind renewing leases without recovering outstanding penalties. The Congress leader called for the recovery of dues and public disclosure of lease renewal details to address concerns raised by the opposition.
The escalating political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh has intensified with these allegations. The Congress has been targeting Chief Minister Mohan Yadav over various issues, including the recent land matter involving his family members. The BJP, in response, has dismissed the accusations as baseless and politically driven, setting the stage for a contentious political battle in the state.
