The Congress party has revealed 22 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, covering significant constituencies in the state. The All India Congress Committee (AICC) confirmed the names approved by the Central Election Committee, spanning Lower Assam, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Upper Assam, and Barak Valley.

Among the notable candidates are Manik Ch. Brahma from Kokrajhar (ST), Sapali Marak from Baokhungri, Md Ashraful Islam Sheikh from Parbatjhora, and Baby Begum from Dhubri. The party has also put forward Aftab Uddin Mollah from Jaleswar and Pradip Sarkar from Abhayapuri. In the BTR region, the Congress has selected candidates like Matilal Narzary from Sidli (ST), Jagadish Madahi from Baksa (ST), Rafie Daimary from Tamulpur (ST), and Soren Daimari from Udalguri (ST) to strengthen its presence in tribal-dominated areas.

From Upper Assam, the candidates include Asif Mohamad Nazar (Laharighat), Durlav Chamua (Nagaon-Batadraba), Sunil Chetry (Nadua), Joyonto Khaund (Rongonadi), Ghana Buragohain (Lakhimpur), and Ananda Narah (Dhakuakhana-ST). Additionally, Sibanath Chetia will run from Makum, and Roselina Tirkey from Khumtai. In the hill and Barak Valley regions, Sanjeeb Teron is the candidate for Howraghat (ST), while Zubair Anam Mazumder will contest from Algapur-Katlicherra.

This announcement is part of the ongoing candidate declaration process by the Congress, following the release of two previous lists that covered various constituencies, showcasing a mix of incumbent leaders, fresh faces, and community representatives. The party aims to strike a balance between experienced politicians and new leadership, emphasizing social and regional inclusivity. The Assam Assembly elections are anticipated to be fiercely contested, with the Congress striving to regain political ground against the ruling BJP-led alliance.
