In preparation for upcoming political challenges in Goa, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has made significant changes to the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC). The reshuffle, declared by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, came into effect on May 29, 2026. Girish Chodankar has been appointed as the new President of the GPCC, with M.K. Shaikh, Altone D’Costa, and Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferriera named as working presidents, and Datta D. Naik as the treasurer.
The Congress has acknowledged the contributions of outgoing PCC president Amit Patkar and has also sanctioned appointments for various key committees to reinforce the party’s structure in the coastal state. Yuri Alemao will head the campaign committee, Captain Viriato Fernandes will chair the manifesto committee, and Francisco Sardinha and Sunil Kawthankar will lead the coordination committee.
This strategic move by the Congress high command is aimed at rejuvenating the party in Goa following electoral setbacks. Girish Chodankar, known for his organizational skills, is expected to spearhead efforts to strengthen the party’s foundation and gear up for future electoral battles. The new team is set to concentrate on grassroots engagement, issue-oriented campaigns, and improved coordination with the central leadership.
The recent appointments are closely monitored in Goan political circles as they could significantly impact the Congress’s electoral strategy in the upcoming cycle. The diverse representation in the new team, encompassing leaders from different regions and communities, underscores the party’s endeavor to broaden its appeal in the state.
