The Congress has approved the appointment of three new Secretaries to the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) to bolster its organizational structure in the state for upcoming political challenges. The appointments of Palash Pawan Saikia, Dipankar Bora, and Johnson Sangma as Secretaries of the APCC have been greenlit by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. These new appointments will complement the existing Secretaries within the state party unit.
A senior Congress leader highlighted that the strategic move aims to enhance the party’s organizational footprint across diverse regions of Assam and invigorate grassroots-level party members. Palash Pawan Saikia, a familiar figure in Upper Assam’s Congress circles, has a history of active involvement in youth and organizational initiatives within the party. He has been instrumental in collaborating with district-level leadership in Assam and mobilizing party workers during elections and outreach programs.
Dipankar Bora, another newly appointed Secretary, brings extensive experience in the Congress’ organizational activities in the state. Known for his past roles within the party structure, Bora is recognized as a pivotal organizer with strong ties to Congress workers at the grassroots level. Johnson Sangma, representing the Garo community, holds significance as a key leader from the tribal belt. His appointment is anticipated to reinforce the Congress’ engagement with tribal communities, especially in regions with substantial indigenous populations.
The appointments have been well-received by Congress leaders in Assam, who believe that the inclusion of leaders from various regions and communities will fortify the party’s organizational prowess. As the Congress gears up for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, where it aims to pose a robust challenge to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party-led alliance, the party is actively restructuring its state unit and forging broader alliances with regional parties.
