Congress candidate Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticized the Trinamool Congress, labeling them as “thieves” who preach about “electoral religion” while engaging in rigging and intimidating voters in West Bengal. Trinamool Congress leaders raised concerns about irregularities related to a sealed strongroom in Kolkata. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also visited a strongroom amid fears of EVM tampering.
Chowdhury referenced the Supreme Court’s dismissal of Trinamool’s plea regarding Bengal counting staff, emphasizing the right to file complaints. He accused the ruling party of using state funds to pay advocates. The veteran leader highlighted alleged rigging in various elections in Bengal, attributing Trinamool’s victories to collusion with police and local goons.
Expressing distrust in the Trinamool Congress, Chowdhury questioned how one could trust “thieves” speaking about ‘electoral religion’. He further criticized the party for obstructing nominations during past elections and withholding certificates from opposition winners. Chowdhury commended the CRPF’s role in ensuring a fear-free voting process during the recent West Bengal Assembly polls.
Highlighting the significance of public participation without fear, Chowdhury emphasized the impact of central forces’ deployment on election dynamics. He underscored the historical prevalence of rigging, intimidation, and fear-mongering in Bengal elections. Despite his criticisms, Chowdhury clarified that his stance does not signify support for the BJP.
