Congress legislators in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly disrupted proceedings, demanding a debate on the drinking water contamination tragedy in Indore’s Bhagirathpura that resulted in multiple deaths. The Leader of Opposition sought a discussion on the issue, but the Speaker refused, citing its sub judice status. Opposition members accused the ruling BJP of protecting officials and demanded the resignation of the Urban Affairs Minister.
Former Speaker Sita Sharan Sharma supported the Speaker’s decision, emphasizing that discussing a sub-judice matter would be inappropriate. The Deputy Chief Minister informed the House about a diarrhoea outbreak in the area, leading to compensation for the families of 22 deceased individuals. Despite the government’s actions, Congress members continued to protest, claiming more deaths and demanding relief for all affected households.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav assured that the government had taken the matter seriously, suspending an IAS officer in connection with the incident. Prior to the disruption in the Assembly, Congress legislators staged a symbolic protest, criticizing the government for unfulfilled promises. The Leader of Opposition criticized the government for its ineffective actions, contrasting them with the harsh realities faced by the people.
