The Congress has voiced serious concerns about the recent US actions in Venezuela, particularly the “capturing” of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, labeling the entire operation as a breach of international law. Jairam Ramesh, General Secretary in-charge Communications of the Congress, highlighted the party’s apprehensions in a statement, emphasizing the necessity to uphold established principles of international law without unilateral violations.
The Congress’s response coincided with a protest by Left parties at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar, denouncing what they termed as “imperialist military aggression” by the US against Venezuela. The CPI(M) leadership called for global condemnation of the US actions and urged the Indian government to take a definitive stance against the intervention.
Protestors at the demonstration alleged that the US military incursion into Venezuela was driven by a desire to control the oil resources of the South American nation. This outcry followed US President Donald Trump’s announcement of a significant military operation in Caracas, resulting in the apprehension of President Maduro and his wife, with plans to oversee the country during the transition period.
India expressed its concerns over the unfolding events in Venezuela, urging all parties involved to seek peaceful resolutions through dialogue to maintain regional peace and stability. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) underscored the need for a peaceful resolution and reiterated India’s commitment to the safety and well-being of the Venezuelan people.
