The Congress party has selected four candidates for the upcoming elections to the Graduates’ and Teachers’ Constituencies of the Karnataka Legislative Council. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has approved the names of the candidates. The chosen candidates are Mohan Limbikai for West Graduates’, Shashi Hulikuntemutt for South-East Graduates’, Sharanappa Mattur for North-East Teachers’, and Puttanna for Bengaluru Teachers’.
The elections for the Karnataka Legislative Council are set to take place in November 2026. Currently, three out of the four seats are held by the BJP. The Karnataka West Graduates’ Constituency includes districts like Belagavi, Dharwad, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Gadag, and Karwar, and is presently represented by BJP leader S.V. Sankanura. The South-East Graduates’ Constituency covers Kolar and Bengaluru Rural districts and is held by BJP leader Chidanand M. Gowda.
The North-East Teachers’ Constituency comprises districts such as Ballari, Bidar, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayanagar, and Yadgir, and is currently held by senior BJP leader Shashil G. Namoshi. The Bengaluru Teachers’ Constituency includes Bengaluru Urban and Rural districts, BBMP North, South, and Central zones, and the Ramanagara region, and is represented by senior Congress leader Puttanna. The Karnataka Legislative Council has a total of 75 members, with 64 elected and 11 nominated.
