The Congress high command emphasized that there are no plans to alter the party’s leadership in Punjab. A meeting at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, led by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and attended by key figures including Rahul Gandhi, discussed the issue. Senior party leaders from Punjab also participated, expressing their views on strengthening the party during the three-hour meeting.
Venugopal, briefing reporters post-meeting, confirmed the absence of leadership changes in Punjab. He stressed the need for party members to maintain discipline and refrain from making public statements on sensitive matters, emphasizing that discussions should occur within party platforms. The Congress has directed its leaders to adhere to these guidelines and avoid creating factions within the party.
Regarding representation for Dalits within the Congress, Venugopal affirmed the party’s commitment to ensuring adequate representation for marginalized groups, including SCs, STs, and economically weaker sections across the nation. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel highlighted the public sentiment in Punjab favoring a Congress-led government and reiterated the party’s stance against any form of groupism or indiscipline.
