Congress leader Harish Rawat criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent suggestions to the public, urging citizens to avoid foreign travel and cut down on gold purchases due to economic challenges. Rawat claimed that the government’s economic strategies have exacerbated inflation, burdening the common people. He emphasized the need for a clear Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) from the Centre to alleviate confusion among the populace.
Rawat expressed disappointment in the unfulfilled pre-election promises and highlighted the escalating prices affecting the public. He criticized the government for solely resorting to appeals without addressing the deteriorating economic conditions, which he believes will worsen. Rawat also questioned the Prime Minister’s relationship with US President Donald Trump, attributing global issues, including inflation in India, to their association.
The Congress leader pointed out alleged discrimination in the distribution of essential commodities among states and stressed the Opposition’s duty to scrutinize government policies and challenge unfavorable decisions. Rawat underscored the importance of maintaining correct policies alongside national appeals to address economic challenges effectively.
Demanding a clear SOP to allay public fears and uncertainties, Rawat affirmed the Congress party’s willingness to collaborate on national interests while maintaining a robust opposition stance. In contrast, Uttarakhand minister Ganesh Joshi supported the Prime Minister’s recommendations, advocating for reduced car usage for local activities. Joshi’s decision to opt for a scooter for non-essential travel was met with skepticism by Rawat, who urged others to follow suit while humorously expressing concern for Joshi’s scooter’s safety.
Rawat reiterated the necessity for the government to implement effective economic measures to combat inflation and address public apprehensions, emphasizing the importance of sound policies in conjunction with national appeals.
