Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge have initiated a nationwide movement opposing alterations to the MGNREGA scheme. Kharge criticized the government’s priorities, highlighting the neglect of laborers in favor of the wealthy.
Accusing the BJP of ideological bias, Kharge emphasized the party’s lack of support for the impoverished. He also condemned the removal of Mahatma Gandhi’s name from the scheme as a significant insult, considering it an attack on the Father of the Nation.
Rahul Gandhi emphasized the global recognition of MGNREGA as a rights-based development model. He criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for unilaterally changing the scheme, likening it to demonetization and alleging it as detrimental to the states and the underprivileged.
Gandhi highlighted the adverse impact of the changes on various marginalized groups and local governance structures. He pledged strong opposition to the modifications, vowing to unite the opposition against them.
