Congress leaders have expressed their support for Jairam Ramesh’s statement accusing the BJP of aiming to secure “two-thirds majority to end reservations and amend the Constitution.” Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai affirmed the validity of Ramesh’s claims, highlighting concerns about the BJP’s alleged attempts to alter the Constitution by influencing lawmakers. Additionally, Congress MP Rakesh Rathore echoed these sentiments, criticizing the BJP for purportedly excluding marginalized communities from mainstream participation and engaging in the purchase of MPs.
Backing Ramesh’s assertions, Rathore emphasized the BJP’s alleged agenda to overhaul the Constitution and exclude oppressed groups from its framework. He criticized the BJP’s motives, suggesting a desire to establish a new Constitution through securing a two-thirds majority in Parliament. Rathore condemned what he described as the BJP’s regressive ideology, attributing their actions to a detrimental mindset that seeks to reshape the country’s governance.
In response, BJP leader Gourav Vallabh launched a scathing attack on the Congress, demanding an apology for the imposition of the Emergency in 1975 under the leadership of Indira Gandhi. Vallabh urged Congress leaders, including Ramesh, to collectively seek forgiveness from the nation for undermining the Constitution during the Emergency period. He highlighted the severe repercussions of the Emergency, emphasizing the lasting impact on the country’s democratic institutions and fundamental rights.
Vallabh underscored the need to educate younger generations about the events of 1975, cautioning against forgetting the Congress’s alleged conspiracy to dismantle the Constitution. He stressed that the imposition of Emergency by the Congress remains an unforgivable transgression, asserting that those responsible lack the moral authority to comment on constitutional matters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condemned the Emergency’s imposition, labeling it a “grave sin” and urging citizens to remember and hold accountable those involved in the controversial episode.
