Congress MP Sukhdeo Bhagat shared his views on the Iran-Israel conflict, highlighting the importance of respecting nations’ sovereignty. He emphasized that every country has the right to choose its government without external interference. Bhagat stressed that power should not be used to impose views on others.
In the context of India, Bhagat mentioned that India’s policy opposes aggression towards sovereign nations and advocates for peace and dialogue. Referring to the UN Charter and India’s Constitution, he stated that wars go against these principles and create further problems. Bhagat pointed out that historical Indian leaders like Nehru and Indira Gandhi favored diplomacy over conflict.
Bhagat expressed concerns about the lack of clarity in India’s stance on Iran and emphasized the need for strategic dialogues rather than hasty decisions. He suggested leveraging India’s good relations with Gulf nations wisely for addressing international issues. These comments from Bhagat follow the US-Israel airstrikes that resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The US-Israel airstrikes not only targeted Ayatollah Ali Khamenei but also led to the deaths of several of his relatives, as reported by Iranian state media. US President Donald Trump announced Khamenei’s death on Truth Social, portraying it as an opportunity for Iranians to take back control of their country. Trump described the strikes as a form of justice for the people of Iran and others who had suffered under Khamenei’s rule.
