Congress MP Jebi Mather believes that the Left Democratic Alliance (LDF) lost in the Assembly polls due to their “corrupt PR exercise,” emphasizing the importance of real work over mere publicity. Mather, a Rajya Sabha member, expressed optimism that the Congress’s success in Kerala could pave the way for victory in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Mather described the United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) comeback in Kerala as a “spectacular victory” bestowed by the people. She emphasized the responsibility of fulfilling the alliance’s promises to the public and ensuring their overall development and welfare. Reflecting on the reasons behind the LDF’s defeat, Mather cited factors such as anti-incumbency and what she perceived as a misleading PR campaign led by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

According to Mather, the defeat of the incumbent CPI-M-led Left alliance, with only 35 seats won, poses challenges for them in appointing a Leader of Opposition. She highlighted the loss of several Ministers from Vijayan’s cabinet as a significant setback. Mather also alleged that the Congress overcame alleged clandestine agreements between the CPI-M and the BJP, pointing out the defeat of LDF Cabinet Ministers in two seats won by the BJP in Kerala.

Mather stressed the importance of following due process in selecting the Chief Minister before the swearing-in ceremony. She criticized the BJP for what she perceived as mismanagement of central agencies in Assam and West Bengal, accusing the party of manipulating electoral processes to secure power. Mather expressed confidence that the recent political changes in Kerala mark the beginning of a larger transformation leading up to the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
