Amid internal discord in the Congress party in Punjab post-organizational changes, MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. The meeting, scheduled earlier, focused on addressing the worsening law and order situation in the state. Randhawa highlighted his prior communication with the Prime Minister and Home Minister, expressing worries about Punjab’s deteriorating security scenario.
Randhawa, in response to queries about former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi’s actions, expressed disappointment over ongoing dissatisfaction despite numerous organizational meetings. During the meeting with Home Minister Shah, Randhawa submitted a memorandum urging action against the surge in gang-related incidents in Gurdaspur and border regions. Discussions on these security issues were a key part of the meeting.
Meanwhile, Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu criticized Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, drawing a comparison to a scene from the movie Sholay. Bittu remarked on the shifting allegiances within the Punjab Congress, with Raja Warring finding himself increasingly isolated as party members align with Charanjit Channi. Bittu humorously advised Warring to accept the changing dynamics and join the group supporting Channi.
The meeting convened by Channi witnessed the participation of several senior Congress leaders, former ministers, and legislators. Notable attendees included former Deputy Chief Minister O.P. Soni, along with former ministers and legislators. The gathering also saw the presence of former MP Mohammad Sadiq. In a separate development, Congress MP Manish Tewari expressed feeling sidelined after the party appointed new office bearers for Punjab, emphasizing his long-standing commitment to the party.
Out of the seven Congress MPs from Punjab, six have been assigned roles related to the upcoming Punjab elections.
