Congress MP Varsha Gaikwad initiated a 40-day nationwide campaign targeting alleged exam paper leaks and irregularities in India’s education system. The campaign, spanning from June 25 to August 9, will cover 28 states and major cities. Gaikwad emphasized that the initiative stems from concerns over broader issues within the education and examination framework, not just isolated incidents of leaks.
Gaikwad criticized the NDA government, asserting that it has failed to safeguard students’ interests, leading to significant challenges for lakhs of students. The campaign aims to address recurring paper leaks, exam irregularities, and corruption that have eroded student confidence in the system. Congress workers, along with Youth Congress and NSUI members, will engage with students, distribute materials, and gather feedback on education-related issues.
The campaign will culminate in a Students’ Yatra on August 1, followed by a ‘Chalo Delhi’ march and a major protest in the national capital on August 9. Gaikwad outlined three primary demands, including the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and a comprehensive revamp of the examination system. She highlighted instances of leaked papers affecting nearly 89 exams in the past decade, leading to retests and cancellations.
State Youth Congress President Manjunath Gowda echoed concerns over the mental stress caused by repeated leaks on students and families. He criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its controversies and blamed the government for the lack of accountability. An all-party and student organizations’ consultation is planned to combat exam malpractices, with awareness campaigns set for colleges and universities in Karnataka.
