The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has revealed Vinay Karthik as its fifth candidate for the upcoming biennial elections to the Karnataka Legislative Council. This decision was approved by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. Vinay Karthik, who has been associated with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, previously held roles within the Karnataka unit of the Congress party.
AICC General Secretary (Organisation) and MP K.C. Venugopal made the announcement on Friday. The Congress party is expected to field a complete slate of candidates for the legislative council elections, with a strategic focus on its electoral plans. Notably, the Congress has already announced candidates for four out of the seven seats in Karnataka, including members from the Other Backward Classes (OBC).
The selection of candidates, including incumbents B.K. Hariprasad and Tippannappa Kamakanur, has garnered attention. The Congress party’s decision to field OBC members for all four seats is seen as a significant political move ahead of the elections. The remaining seats will see two new faces representing the Congress party. The elections are set to fill seven vacant seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council following the retirement of current members.
