Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly condemned the recent surge in fuel prices, labeling it a “daily assault of FUEL LOOT” and blaming the NDA government for burdening the public. This criticism follows the fourth fuel price increase since May 15, with petrol now costing Rs 2.61 more per liter and diesel Rs 2.71 more per liter.
Kharge expressed his discontent on social media, emphasizing the continuous rise in fuel prices and the strain it puts on households and the economy. He pointed out the revised rates, citing petrol at Rs 7.35/liter and diesel at Rs 7.53/liter, and accused the government of eroding people’s savings by escalating fuel costs.
Drawing comparisons between past and present fuel prices, Kharge highlighted the significant increase from Rs 71.41 to Rs 102.12 per liter for petrol and from Rs 56.71 to Rs 95.20 per liter for diesel. He alleged that the government has amassed Rs 43 lakh crore over 12 years, equating to a daily theft of Rs 1,000.
Kharge also criticized the impact of rising fuel prices on the stock market, noting the surge in shares of oil companies like HPCL, BPCL, and IOC. He warned that the continuous fuel price hikes were adversely affecting all sectors of society, from farmers to small businesses, and urged for accountability in the face of what he termed as “BJP’s LOOT.”
