All India Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized the Central government for transferring the CBSE Chairman and Secretary amidst the controversy surrounding the board’s digital evaluation system. Kharge labeled the move as a mere eyewash and called for the immediate removal of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for justice to be served to students. He emphasized that only Pradhan’s dismissal would bring a sense of justice to the 18.5 lakh CBSE students.
The government appointed senior IAS officer Lokhande Prashant Sitaram as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Varun Bhardwaj as the new CBSE Secretary on the same day. This decision came after the previous Chairman, Rahul Singh, and Secretary Himanshu Gupta were transferred out following allegations of irregularities in the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system used for Class 12 answer sheet evaluation.
The On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, introduced to enhance transparency and efficiency in exam evaluation, has encountered technical issues, delays, and procurement process concerns, drawing criticism from students, teachers, and opposition parties. A one-member committee has been formed by the government to investigate the procurement issues related to the CBSE’s OSM system and is expected to provide findings and recommendations promptly.
Students and parents are urging for swift resolutions and measures to prevent similar lapses in future examinations.
