Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent address to the nation, accusing him of focusing on political remarks rather than substantive governance issues. Kharge expressed concern over the handling of women’s reservation, alleging that PM Modi targeted the Opposition, especially the Congress, during his speech on a social media platform.
Kharge highlighted that PM Modi made numerous references to the Congress but only briefly mentioned women, raising doubts about the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment. He emphasized the importance of women’s reservation and urged the government to promptly implement 33% reservation in the current 543 Lok Sabha seats.
The Congress leader pointed out that the government seemed to be mixing up different legislative matters, suggesting that recent constitutional amendment discussions were more about delimitation than the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’. Kharge demanded an apology from the Prime Minister for what he deemed as misleading claims in the address.
Highlighting the Congress’ achievements, Kharge listed various measures and legislations supporting women’s rights and criticized the BJP’s track record on women’s safety. He accused the ruling party of engaging in divisive politics and focusing on political attacks despite pressing economic challenges and global uncertainties.
