Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has announced the formation of the election committee for the upcoming assembly elections in Assam. The committee comprises around 35 members, including key leaders of the opposition party such as Assam state president Gaurav Gogoi, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, and other prominent figures like former state chiefs and Lok Sabha MPs from the state.
This committee is tasked with crucial decisions, including potential alliances with regional parties like Raijor Dal led by Akhil Gogoi and other significant players in Assam’s political landscape. Additionally, the committee will play a pivotal role in determining the distribution of tickets for the forthcoming assembly polls.
Akhil Gogoi, the president of Raijor Dal, recently emphasized the efforts of opposition parties in Assam to unite against the BJP before the upcoming Assembly elections. Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress leader, has been proposed as the favored candidate for the Chief Ministerial position in this united front against the ruling party.
