The Congress organized a protest rally in Dhorimanna against the recent redrawing of Barmer and Balotra districts’ boundaries, alleging political motives by the BJP-led Rajasthan government. Senior party leaders cautioned that if the Congress regains power, the decision would be reversed. A significant crowd gathered at the “Jan Aakrosh Rally,” demonstrating strong local opposition to the shift of Gudamalani and Dhorimanna from Barmer to Balotra.
Former minister Hemaram Choudhary had been on a sit-in protest since the boundary changes were announced, demanding their reversal. State Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra, Leader of the Opposition Tika Ram Jully, former Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, MLA Harish Choudhary, and MP Ummedaram Beniwal, speaking at the rally, urged the state government to retract the decision promptly. They accused the BJP government of breaching regulations in restructuring Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, alleging an electoral agenda behind the district boundary alterations.
The Congress leaders cautioned that such maneuvers could have adverse political consequences, stating that the public would respond during the upcoming Panchayati Raj and municipal elections. Hemaram Choudhary, following party leaders’ request, announced the suspension of his protest in the evening, assuring locals that the issue would not be forgotten. They reiterated that if the Congress assumes power in 2028, Gudamalani and Dhorimanna would be reintegrated into Barmer district.
State Congress President Dotasra characterized the forthcoming local body and panchayat elections as a chance to end BJP rule in Rajasthan. He criticized the government for allegedly acting dictatorially under the guise of delimitation and administrative restructuring, claiming a surge in public discontent across the state. Leader of the Opposition Jully accused the government of showing favoritism to specific industrialists through dubious land allocations in districts like Barmer and Jaisalmer, cautioning that such actions could lead to the BJP losing power.
Sachin Pilot affirmed that the Congress would vigorously raise the issue in the Assembly and asserted the party’s return to power in the state in the near future. The rally highlighted escalating political tensions in western Rajasthan due to administrative reorganization and its local implications.
