The Congress in Madhya Pradesh has raised concerns over the recent Rajya Sabha election results, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s victory was facilitated by the rejection of its candidate Meenakshi Natarajan’s nomination papers. Despite the BJP candidates receiving their election certificates, Congress leaders have criticized the Election Commission and the election process.
Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh claimed that Natarajan’s nomination was unjustly rejected, emphasizing that there were no legal grounds for the decision. Singh stated that the party had already presented its case to the Election Commission, highlighting Natarajan’s clean record without any criminal cases against her.
Questioning the timing of the Rajya Sabha results announcement, Digvijaya Singh mentioned that the Congress had sought urgent relief from the Supreme Court before the certificates were issued. He strongly opposed what he described as an act of theft and vowed to challenge it vigorously.
Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath echoed the party’s discontent, labeling the issuance of election certificates to BJP candidates as a betrayal of democratic values. Nath criticized the haste in the process, emphasizing that the Election Commission had not yet provided a final ruling on the Congress’ complaint.
Madhya Pradesh BJP President Hemant Khandelwal congratulated the newly elected Rajya Sabha members and expressed confidence in their ability to represent state and national interests in Parliament.
