Congress General Secretary and MP, K.C. Venugopal has urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to consider a privilege motion against Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. This request follows allegations that Singh misled the House regarding the casualties in the Indian Armed Forces during ‘Operation Sindoor’. The controversy arose when six soldiers who lost their lives during the operation were honored at the National War Memorial, contradicting Singh’s earlier statement of no casualties.
The Congress party criticized the Defence Minister for allegedly downplaying the sacrifices made by the soldiers during ‘Operation Sindoor’. Venugopal accused Singh of lying to the public and the Parliament, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging the soldiers’ bravery and ultimate sacrifice. Opposition leaders have called for Singh’s resignation, claiming deliberate misinformation by the government.
In response to the accusations, the Ministry of Defence refuted the claims, stating that Singh’s remarks were misinterpreted. The Ministry clarified that Singh was addressing false online rumors about Indian Air Force pilots being shot down, not denying ground casualties. The six martyred soldiers, including personnel from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force, were honored at the National War Memorial to commemorate their sacrifice for the nation.
