Even before the Election Commission’s schedule for the Kerala Assembly elections is announced, the Congress has indicated that P.V. Anvar, a two-time former Left-backed Independent legislator, will be contesting from the Beypore Assembly constituency in Kozhikode district. Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Sunny Joseph confirmed Anvar’s candidacy and expressed confidence in his potential victory.
Joseph stated that Anvar is expected to secure a win in Beypore and become the MLA, setting the stage for a closely watched electoral battle in a constituency traditionally dominated by the CPI(M). Anvar swiftly responded, mentioning that he has been actively campaigning for over 15 months and emphasizing his aim to challenge Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and State Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas.
The political dynamics in Beypore have been energized by the Congress’ announcement and Anvar’s strong stance against the ruling establishment. Anvar’s renewed involvement in politics, following his fallout with Vijayan and subsequent independent candidature in a bypoll, has added intensity to the electoral landscape. With Joseph’s endorsement, Beypore is anticipated to witness a competitive electoral showdown.
