Congress UP Chief Ajay Rai announced that party workers nationwide will protest and fast against the government’s move to replace MGNREGA with a new scheme, which they believe neglects the poor’s interests. Rai stated that protests will be held under the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Bhimrao Ambedkar to oppose the shift from MGNREGA to schemes like ‘G Ram G’ that allegedly do not adequately support the underprivileged.
Rai criticized the government for impacting rural employment and the livelihood security of millions of poor families by dismantling welfare mechanisms like MGNREGA. He emphasized that the Congress will persist in its demonstrations, both on the streets and through democratic channels, to safeguard the rights of laborers and marginalized communities. Rai highlighted the symbolic significance of protesting under the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, representing the party’s commitment to social justice and equality.
Ajay Rai lauded Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s appointment as Chairperson of the Assam Congress Screening Committee, praising her leadership qualities and national popularity. He expressed confidence in her ability to bolster the party’s organizational activities in various states, citing her influence and engagement with grassroots workers as pivotal for the party’s resurgence. Rai also mentioned plans for extensive celebrations on Priyanka Gandhi’s birthday, emphasizing her growing recognition and leadership role within the party.
