Construction has commenced on hospitals and school buildings in Nepal’s Humla and Kailali districts, supported by Indian financial aid. These projects are part of the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) program, aimed at enhancing essential social infrastructure in Nepal. The Nepal-Bharat Maitri Hospital Building in Humla district and a new building for Shree Janajyoti Secondary School in Kalikot district are among the initiatives.
The Nepal-Bharat Maitri Hospital Building’s foundation stone was laid in Chankheli Rural Municipality, Humla district, marking the third HICDP project in the region. This effort underscores the ongoing development collaboration between Nepal and India at the grassroots level. The hospital building is expected to bolster healthcare facilities and enhance medical services accessibility for local residents in Humla.
Furthermore, a new building for Shree Janajyoti Secondary School is set to be constructed in Sannitriveni Rural Municipality, Kalikot district, with financial assistance from the Indian government. This project, amounting to approximately NPR 93 million, signifies the first HICDP initiative in Kalikot district. The HICDP program plays a crucial role in Nepal-India development cooperation, focusing on various sectors such as education, health, community infrastructure, and capacity building nationwide.
The HICDP program, previously known as Small Development Projects, has been supporting small-scale infrastructure and community-based projects in Nepal since 2003. These projects, implemented through local authorities, prioritize sectors like health, education, water supply, sanitation, electrification, and river training works. India has undertaken nearly 600 HICDP projects across Nepal’s provinces and districts, contributing significantly to the country’s development. Additionally, India has provided ambulances and school buses to institutions in Karnali Province, including Kalikot district, as part of its developmental assistance efforts.
