The Consulate General of India in Atlanta expressed deep sorrow over a tragic shooting incident in Georgia that resulted in the deaths of four adults, including an Indian national. The consulate assured full assistance to the bereaved family affected by the incident. Gwinnett County Police are investigating the deadly domestic shooting that occurred in a Lawrenceville-area neighborhood.
The shooting incident, believed to be linked to a family dispute, led to the tragic deaths of four individuals of Indian origin. The alleged shooter has been arrested, and the consulate is providing all possible support to the affected family. Authorities responded to a “shots fired” call around 2:30 a.m. in the 1,000 block of Brook Ivy Court, where the victims were found with gunshot wounds.
The police investigation revealed that the shooting was of a domestic nature. Despite the tragic event, three young children present in the home during the incident managed to hide together inside a closet for safety. One of the children bravely called 911, providing crucial information that helped law enforcement officers quickly reach the scene. Due to the prompt response, the suspect was apprehended without any further incidents.
The suspect, identified as Vijay Kumar, 51, of Atlanta, has been charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault and murder. The victims were identified as Kumar’s wife, Meemu Dogra, along with three other individuals from Lawrenceville. The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument between Dogra and Kumar at their Atlanta residence, leading to the tragic events at the Brook Ivy Court location. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
