The Consulate General of India in Belfast organized a special reception for Team India, who are in Ireland for a two-match T20I series. Consul General Kiran Khatri welcomed the ‘Men in Blue’ in the Northern Ireland capital, where they will play the second match at the Civil Service Cricket Club on Sunday.
The India men’s cricket team made a return to Ireland after three years, and Belfast City Hall was illuminated in the Indian tricolour to greet Team India. The Consulate General of India in Belfast expressed warm wishes for the team, emphasizing the role of sports in connecting people.
During the event, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared moments from the reception, highlighting the camaraderie and Indian spirit in Belfast. The occasion, attended by members of the Indian community and distinguished guests, showcased the enduring popularity of cricket in fostering relationships.
India and Ireland have a history in T20Is, with India winning all eight previous encounters. However, Ireland secured their first-ever victory over India in the opening T20I, winning by 34 runs. Captain Lorcan Tucker’s impressive half-century led Ireland to a total of 182/9, while India faltered and was bowled out for 148 in 18.5 overs.
