A controversy unfolded at a private school in Hyderabad when a Hindu Class 2 student was given Islamic homework, including reciting ‘Kalima’ and ‘Sura Fatiha’. The incident took place in the Saidabad area, leading the student’s parents to question the school’s decision.
The parents expressed their concerns to the school management regarding the appropriateness of assigning Islamic verses to a non-Muslim student. Subsequently, they lodged a complaint with the management of ‘Success’ school and demanded action against the teacher responsible for the assignment.
In response to the protest, the school management decided to dismiss the teacher involved in the incident. The teacher has been permanently barred from seeking employment within the ‘Success’ group of educational institutions in the future.
According to the parents, the teacher instructed the student to read ‘Sura Fatiha’ as part of the ‘Deeniyath’ subject on July 15. Earlier, on July 11, the teacher had initially asked the student to read ‘Kalima’, but later crossed it out upon realizing it was not applicable to a non-Muslim student.
The school management clarified that while most students in the school are Muslims and study ‘Deeniyath’, non-Muslim students are not taught this subject. The management acknowledged the error as unintentional but still opted to terminate the teacher’s services.
Independent MLA T. Raja Singh Lodh criticized the incident, deeming it disgraceful that a young Hindu student was pressured to recite the Kalma. He urged Chief Minister Revanth Reddy to take action against schools that compel Hindu children to recite Islamic verses.
