A controversy has emerged over Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee’s family residence at 188A, Harish Mukherjee Road in Kolkata. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s Assessor-Collector (South) office issued a notice regarding the property, originally purchased in the name of M/s Animesh Tradelink Private Limited, later renamed ‘Leaps and Bounds Infra Consultants Private Limited’.
Allegations suggest that despite the construction of a new building named ‘Santiniketan’ on the premises, the property is still classified as ‘owner-occupied’. The property tax is being paid by ‘Leaps and Bounds Infra Consultants Private Limited’, while Banerjee’s family members reside there. The KMC’s inquiry revealed that the property is not being used by the registered owner, prompting the civic body to request submission of relevant documents for reassessment.
The notice, dated May 19 and signed by Assessor-Collector (South) Arup Mondal, mandates the submission of agreements, transaction-related documents, and possession details within seven days. Directed to the director of Leaps and Bounds Infra Consultants Private Limited, the notice has sparked political reactions, with the BJP alleging irregularities in property tax assessment and usage concealment.
The Trinamool Congress leadership has not issued an official response yet. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation is reportedly scrutinizing tax assessment and usage details of various properties in the city, with the notice being part of this ongoing process.
