A recent controversy has emerged at the Sabarimala temple, which is already under investigation for a gold heist case. A Devaswom Vigilance inquiry revealed that a film shoot took place in violation of restrictions at the sacred shrine and its vicinity. The investigation report disclosed that filming occurred over several days at Pampa and nearby areas.
On the auspicious day of Makara Vilakku, shooting was conducted at a hilltop location near the Sabarimala temple complex, as per the report. This contradicts earlier statements by the film’s director, Anuraj Manohar, who denied any shooting at the Sannidhanam. Despite the director’s claims, the vigilance report confirmed that filming happened in restricted zones without police permission.
The report’s revelation has raised concerns about procedural oversights and potential breaches of established norms around activities near the pilgrimage center. Video evidence of the shoot accompanied the vigilance report, which has been formally handed over to Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) President K. Jayakumar. In response, the Board has sought legal counsel to determine the next steps.
The TDB President has instructed the legal cell to compile a detailed report pinpointing the specific violations during the filming. The controversy highlights the challenges faced by temple authorities in enforcing regulations at Sabarimala, especially amidst existing serious allegations and increased public scrutiny.
