A controversy has arisen at the ‘India AI Impact Summit 2026’ involving Galgotias University in Noida showcasing a Chinese robot dog as their creation ‘Orion’. Wipro, another participant, also displayed a Chinese robot dog at the event. However, Wipro clarified that they are a software company and not a hardware company.

Sources from Wipro emphasized that their situation differs from Galgotias University as they do not possess a complete robot of their own. At the Summit, a Wipro representative introduced an AI-powered robot dog named ‘TJ’, highlighting its capabilities in handling risky tasks like disaster scenarios.

The AI-powered Chinese robot dog, named Go2, was developed by the Chinese robotics firm Unitree. Amid the controversy, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that action has been taken regarding any misconduct at the AI Summit expo. He also commended the presentation of various beneficial AI solutions at the event.

In response to the uproar surrounding the Chinese robotic dog ‘Orion’, Galgotias University attempted to downplay the situation as exaggeration and misinterpretation. Despite the controversy, the University stall remains at the AI Expo, although there were reports of being asked to leave.

The dispute originated when a University representative claimed the robotic dog as an invention by the varsity’s Centre of Excellence, showcasing its technical features and innovations to the media.
