A poster displaying Trinamool Congress’ Abhishek Banerjee in front of Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral home in North Kolkata sparked a controversy. The BJP criticized the poster for featuring only Banerjee and not Swami Vivekananda, despite the message ‘Welcome, Crown Prince’ on it. The Trinamool Congress denied the allegations and questioned the BJP’s own placards and hoardings.
Monday marked Swami Vivekananda’s 163rd birth anniversary, with leaders paying respects at his residence. Abhishek Banerjee is set to visit later in the day. Suvendu Adhikari, the Leader of Opposition, emphasized Vivekananda’s significance, stating, “Swami Vivekananda is the real crown prince.”
Criticism continued as Sukanta Majumdar highlighted the need to preserve Vivekananda’s legacy. The BJP organized a ‘Vivek Yatra’ to honor Swamiji, with various party leaders in attendance. Trinamool Congress defended the poster, explaining it as a gesture of respect towards Abhishek Banerjee.
State Minister Shashi Panja raised concerns over the BJP’s posters, contrasting their messages with those on the Trinamool Congress’ hoarding. She emphasized the people’s admiration for Abhishek Banerjee, viewing him as a ‘crown prince’. The controversy surrounding the poster continues, with differing perspectives on its intent.
