More than 50.8 lakh domestic LPG cylinders and over 73,000 small 5 kg LPG cylinders were delivered on Tuesday, with no dry-outs reported at retail distributorships despite supply chain disruptions due to the Middle East conflict, according to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry. Online domestic LPG cylinder bookings have surged to 99%, and authentication code-based deliveries have risen to around 94% to prevent diversion at the distributor level, as per a ministry statement.
Public sector oil companies have seen a significant increase in average auto LPG sales in April, touching 353 metric tonnes a day compared to around 177 metric tonnes per day in January and February, marking a 100% rise. Additionally, over 8,838 MT of commercial LPG was sold on Tuesday, bringing the total sale of commercial LPG during April to 1,84,043 MT.
Retail prices for petrol and diesel remain steady, with ample stocks available at all petrol pumps nationwide. Enforcement actions against hoarding and black marketing of LPG continue, with over 2200 raids conducted across the country on Tuesday.
The public sector oil companies have intensified surprise inspections and penalties on LPG distributorships, with 72 distributorships suspended so far and show cause notices issued to 54 LPG distributors on Tuesday. Citizens are urged to avoid panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG, rely on official sources for information, and use digital booking platforms for LPG.
