A staff member at the Saket District Court in Delhi died by suicide on Friday by jumping from the court complex building. The deceased, identified as Harish Singh Mahar, left a suicide note indicating severe mental stress due to work-related pressure. Mahar, an ‘Ahlmad’ responsible for court records, had been struggling with suicidal thoughts but did not share his mental state with anyone.

The suicide note revealed that Mahar, with 60% disability, found the job’s demands overwhelming, affecting his mental health. He expressed concerns about his financial future, ruling out early retirement due to access restrictions to savings and pension benefits until age 60. Mahar urged lighter duties for persons with disabilities in a plea to prevent similar suffering.

Following the incident, an advocate at the Saket court expressed deep disturbance, highlighting concerns about the demanding nature of the post for someone with a 60% disability. The legal community has initiated protests outside the court, advocating for justice and improved working conditions for court staff. Additional Secretary at Saket Court, Hitesh Baisla, confirmed the suicide and noted ongoing investigations.
