CPI General Secretary, D. Raja, expressed concerns about the Election Commission’s conduct during the recent Assembly polls. Raja mentioned that there were doubts about the Commission’s impartiality, alleging a bias towards the BJP. He urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to provide evidence to support her claims against the Election Commission.
Raja criticized the Election Commission for not taking action against Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct. He highlighted Modi’s use of ‘Doordarshan’ for political messaging, which he deemed inappropriate. The CPI leader emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
Responding to Mamata Banerjee’s accusations against the Election Commission, Raja stressed the importance of presenting factual evidence. He suggested that both the Election Commission and the Union government should address the concerns raised by Banerjee. Raja underscored the significance of maintaining integrity and fairness in the electoral system.
The Trinamool Congress, led by Mamata Banerjee, faced defeat in West Bengal, with the BJP securing a significant number of seats. Raja also commented on BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s remarks about working for the Hindu community in Nandigram. He cautioned against divisive politics and communal tensions, urging vigilance in the face of potential conflicts.
Regarding Adhikari’s assertion that the Trinamool Congress would be swiftly dismantled, Raja expressed uncertainty about the statement’s implications. He noted Mamata Banerjee’s ability to respond effectively to such challenges. Raja also addressed the BJP’s claims of a ‘saffron wave’ sweeping the nation, acknowledging recent electoral victories while expressing skepticism about the party’s nationwide dominance.
