The CPI(M) General Secretary, M.A. Baby, announced that he will not be attending the INDIA bloc meeting in New Delhi. Despite his absence, he clarified that this decision does not signify the party’s withdrawal from the opposition bloc. Baby expressed discontent over the Congress party’s alleged baseless accusations against the CPI(M) and the Left parties, emphasizing the need for coordination within the opposition.
The decision to abstain from the meeting aligns with the stance of other key allies like DMK, JMM, and CPI(M), who have either opted out or criticized the Congress party’s actions. While the CPI(M) has played a significant role in forming and organizing the INDIA bloc, recent political tensions have led to a rift between the party and the Congress. In a letter addressed to Mallikarjun Kharge, Baby highlighted the unjust attacks on the CPI(M) and the LDF, urging for a united front against the BJP.
Acknowledging the importance of a cohesive opposition, Baby emphasized the necessity for the Congress party to engage with other opposition factions constructively. He expressed hope that the Congress would rectify its current approach to foster a robust anti-BJP coalition. The absence of clarity on the meeting’s agenda and attendees from various parties, including the CPI, adds to the uncertainty surrounding the INDIA bloc gathering.
