A day after announcing his decision to contest the upcoming Assembly election as an Independent candidate from Ambalappuzha, former state Minister G. Sudhakaran faced criticism from Fisheries Minister Saji Cherian. Cherian expressed disappointment over Sudhakaran’s choice, highlighting the significant roles the party had entrusted to him over the years.
Cherian, also from Alappuzha district, emphasized that the party’s strong organizational structure would prevent any electoral repercussions from Sudhakaran’s rebellion. He assured that party members would not support Sudhakaran’s independent candidacy, emphasizing the party’s discipline and unity.
Despite organized protests and backlash against Sudhakaran in Alappuzha, Cherian stated that the party workers’ anger and dissatisfaction would persist. He acknowledged that Sudhakaran’s decision was not unexpected by the party leadership, revealing that efforts to dissuade him had been ongoing since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Cherian remained confident that Sudhakaran’s move would not impact the party’s electoral prospects in Alappuzha or across the state.
